Philosophy & Ethics

The Newmarket Skating Club is committed to providing members with the opportunity to develop and pursue their goals in a safe and encouraging environment. Coaches and parents/guardians play a special role in the development of skaters’ enjoyment of this sport and as such should model positive and responsible behaviour at all times while participating in any Newmarket Skating Club group session, private session, event or competition.

Our Coaches & Program Assistants

The Newmarket Skating Club is committed to assisting our coaches to excellence at all levels, inspiring, guiding, encouraging and supporting them to reach their full potential in a positive environment.

Our Skating Facilities

The Magna Centre, situated at 800 Mulock Drive in Newmarket, is a modern multi-use recreation facility. Inside, visitors will find an Olympic-sized rink along with three NHL-sized ice surfaces, a 25-metre community pool paired with a 21-metre learning pool, a full gymnasium, an indoor walking track, and three versatile multi-purpose rooms. The facility is also home to the Newmarket Figure Skating Club.

“Skating is an amazing form of self-expression. It’s like my soul at play”

-Josee Chouinard (Canadian Figure Skater, 3-Time Canadian National Champion)

Leadership & Legacy

As a not-for-profit skating club, we are completely made up of volunteers who generously donate their time to manage the Club operations.

Newmarket Skating Club Founders:

(STORY) “In an era of organized sports and activities, is difficult to imagine a time when formal sports organizations did not exist.

Yet, when Sally Brice used to ride the bus with her daughter, also Sally, to Toronto to skate, there existed no other option.

When Margaret Davis got tired of watching her friend’s ordeal in order for her daughter to have access to indoor ice, she took action. Ultimately, the two women teamed up to create the Newmarket Figure Skating Club in 1960 and provide the community with a lasting entity.”
